The excursion includes a licensed English or French speaking Guide and deluxe motor coach and commences with a Panoramic Drive through the New Town, past Mandraki Harbour, the Post Office, Town Hall, Evangelismos and continues to the Monte Smith Hill which offers a magnificent view of the Aegean and the City of Rhodes, past the ancient Rhodes Acropolis dedicated to Zeus Polieus, Athena Polias and Pythian Apollo, of which four columns have been reconstructed and past the 2nd century BC ancient Stadium and Theatre, both of them restored. From there the excursion continues to the D Amboise Gate of the Medieval City where the guests disembark and on foot visit the Grand Masters Palace, the most imposing building of medieval Rhodes. It was originally built in the 14th Century, but demolished by an explosion in 1856. It was restored in 1939, during the Italian occupation. The Street of the Knights, which, in spite of the restoration of its buildings, has remained untouched by the passage of 500 years, since it was originally built in the 14th century. The Gothic order predominates. The Inns of the various (Tongues) stand in a row, with impressive arched doorways, their emblems carved above them. The final visit is to the Place Archaeological Museum, which is housed in the restored building of the 15th century Hospital of the Knights. Re-embarkation is at the Kolona Gate for the continuation to Lindos, commencing with a one-hour scenic drive along the East Coast of the Island, which passes through different landscapes and many villages, including the village of Archangelos, for a demonstration of handmade pottery being created at a Potters wheel. At Lindos the (Jewel of the Island) with the most attractive village on Rhodes, the guests will enjoy a guided visit of the Acropolis, which includes the Great Stoa, the Temple of Athena Lindia of the 4th century BC, the ancient theatre and the few remains of the temple of Dionysus. The view from the rock of the Acropolis, which rises shear 115m above the sea, is unique. The guided visit continues through the picturesque village with its traditional architecture and decorated houses, many dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The final visit is to 15th century medieval church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, of which the icons and frescoes have recently been restored to their former glory.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 2 miles over even and uneven surfaces with some inclines and more than 80+ steps. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Time permitting; guests will have approximately 30 minutes of free time for shopping and browsing along Sokrats Street before assembling back at the Marine Gate where your guide will escort you back to the ship. Everyone wants to visit this exceptional site !
Ephesus was of one of the most illustrious and important cities of ancient Greece and Rome. Once the capital of Rome's Province of Asia, second only to Alexandria, and with a population of 250,000 it was famed for its beauty, wealth and decadence as well as its fabulous Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
As aptly put by "Let's Go Turkey":
"Short, fiery and intense, Ephesus' history has all the makings of an ancient tragedy. Out of devotion to its patron goddess Artemis, it stayed close to her colossal temple rather than sidestep certain death as its harbour steadily filled with silt. Despite desperate attempts to battle the Cayster River's indefatiguable silt-depositing tyranny, the recession of the sea had sealed the city's fate by the 6th Century. The harbour deteriorated into a marshy morass, which eventually became infested with with malaria-carrying mosquitoes, triggering a massive epidemic that resulted in nearly 200,000 deaths ...."
An important site of early Christianity, it is mentioned in the New Testament of the Christian Bible (Acts 19v23* and the Epistle to the Ephesians) and was the site of the third Ecumenical Council that determined the status of Mary as the Mother of God in 431 AD and found Bishop Nestoridas a heretic for disagreeing. St. Paul lived there for 3 years from 50 AD. Jesus' mother Mary and Apostle John are other famous former citizens.
90% of people need 2 - 4 hours to see Ephesus; enthusiasts of classics, archeology and theology will want much more !
Private Guides, Tour Groups and "DIY" Guide Books are all available and are all good in their own way, depending on your budget and what you want.
